Sick Puppies
IN
Spring 2010

On a sultry spring night, in front of 25,000 raucous and enthusiastic fans, Sick Puppies kick-started the summer concert season. Performing in Indy along with Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin and Nickelback, the band tore through the best of their catalog in an all too short set. Led by frontman Shimon Moore, the band proved why they are one of the best, but often overlooked, touring bands out there.

The Australian trio, featuring one of the most talented bass players in the business, Emma Anzai, along with drummer Mark Goodwin, ripped through their set with the type of frenetic energy normally associated with a meth addict on Red Bull. With songs like "You're Going Down" Sick Puppies engaged the audience immediately. This is one band that doesn't disappoint live; no props, pyrotechnics or self serving monologues - just three talented musicians loving what they do and sharing it with an appreciative audience.

Their latest CD, Tri-Polar, has been gaining traction since its release last summer. The single "War" was used in the marketing campaign for the video game "Street Fighter War IV" and the WWE has been utilizing "You're Going Down" for some of their matches as well. It's an aggressive album full of the pent up energy caused by long term touring.

But playing live is what Sick Puppies do best. They relate to the audience rather than pander to them. All three seem genuinely pleased to be there and the music is tight, dynamic and unique. It is exactly the type of performance that creates lifelong, devoted fans.
With this tour, they should be picking up a lot more of those.
