Anti-Flag

Can a political pop punk group from Pittsburgh do justice to some of the best known hits of one of the best known political pop punk groups from London?

Oh yes.

This fall, both Anti-Flag and Clash fans will get a very early Christmas present when Side One Dummy releases the 3rd edition of Joe Sibs' The Complete Control Sessions featuring a live to tape recording of Anti-Flag performing several Clash covers as well as some studio recordings of their own classics.

The new release boasts two versions of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go"; the first a straight cover, while the second has Anti-Flag adding their signature intensity to the classic, and features a sample taken from a Joe Strummer speech. Another highlight is the much covered "I Fought The Law" which Anti-Flag cleverly melds with "Guns of Brixton," creating one unique track from two covers and putting the punk edge back in to some of The Clash's more poppy songs.

Rounding out the covers are a few of Anti-Flag's now-classics, including "This Is The End" and "The Economy Is Suffering...Let it Die" which may be even more relevant now than when it was first released on 2009's landmark album The People Or The Gun.

Although Anti-Flag fans are still awaiting a follow up to that album (and there's still no word from the band on when that might happen) this release will have their fans pogo-ing for joy.

It's Anti-Flag covering The Clash. What's not to love?
