You have to admit that The Billie Burke Estate's Andy Liotta has a fantastic, powerful and wide-ranging voice. In fact, his vocals are the most notable thing about his album Let Your Heart Break. Unfortunately, that's one of the few positive moments. The proceedings start off well enough with the piano-driven "99 Liberty Lane," but things don't go so well for the rest of the album. Songs such as the cheesy "Everybody's Gonna Die" feature clichéd lyrics such as "Everybody's gonna die, so why not try and spread some sunshine before the rain." In the bizarrely titled "Perky Muscle Girl" and the irritating "Little Maisy" his use of rhyme is grating: "Perky muscle girl/You rule my world." The tacky "Dreams Come True" wins the prize for the most excruciating line on the album: "She had to peel off all her clothes/She watched the leading man grow/ Had to close her eyes to blow." Other songs suffer from being overly dramatic, like the phony-sounding "Hold On" and title track "Let Your Heart Break." There are some good moments, like the almost pretty "Skin" with its simple instrumentation that highlights Liotta's voice and the harder-edged "Like I See You." If it's only Liotta's voice that makes this album almost bearable, perhaps he should try doing an album of covers.
