The Buddyrevelles

For the uninitiated, The Buddyrevelles could be described as a mash-up of The Eels and Pavement, with James Taylor singing lead and Neal Pert singing backup. Actually, it works. The Buddyrevelles—Aaron Grant, Schott Hoch, and Dan Reinholdt—offer listeners clean, three-man indie-pop with Midwestern roots. Don't Quit is their third release, and their first on Solitaire Records, a Chicago jazz label now branching into pop. One of the standout tracks on Don't Quit is "The Way of Enchanted Falls." It's intense, laced with a special madness, with the passion and fire that allows us to thumb our noses at an uncaring universe and to frolic like fools on the edge of the shore. For the faithful, who waited seven years since the band's last release, Don't Quit has the same moody, intelligent lyrics, clear melodies, and driving rhythms as their second release, American Matador, but it's a stronger showcase for the band's talents. It's several degrees better—tighter, smarter, cleaner-and despite some sameness between individual tracks, Don't Quit proves that some things are worth the wait.
