Darfur Now

Vividly illustrating the genocide in Darfur by showing the humanitarian emergency through the eyes of six heroic activists (Don Cheadle, Hejewa Adam, Pablo Recalde, Ahmed Mohammed Abakar, Luis Moreno-Ocampo and Adam Sterling) Ted Braun's Darfur Now is a disturbing and unflinching look at what has been called the worst crisis of the 21st century. The accompanying Graeme Revell (Dead Calm, Chinese Box) soundtrack is a stirring companion to the film, stitching the indigenous sounds of western Sudan into its twenty-one compositions. "Atrocities" is rhythmic and tense; "Rebels Patrolling" moves with a quiet menace and "The Aid Convoy" comes shimmering with hope. Elsewhere, "Pablo Passes Gunmen" is as elegant as it is threatening; "Don's Children" is a spare and moving piano ballad and "Children of the World" is a riveting number that is both mournful and optimistic.
