Listen, I know it was fun to chase down all these cuts on vinyl over the years, but you have to admit that having them all on one CD isn’t too shabby. To help celebrate the re-launching of the Strut label, we get the re-release of 2000’s Disco Not Disco, a fourteen-track collection of lost classics from the ‘70s and ‘80s post punk/leftfield disco movements. From James White & The Blacks’ jazzy punk “Contort Yourself (August Darnell remix)” to Kazino’s Italian robot disco “Binary” there’s much to recommend here. The dirty reggae of Vivien Goldman’s “Launderette” prefigures Lily Allen; Six Sed Red’s “Beat ‘Em Right” is a decadent and sexy slice of industrial electro-pop and Isotope’s “Crunch Cake” is a funky freestyling workout. Other notables include the 1982 12’” version of Shriekback’s groove heavy “My Spine (Is The Bassline)” and Delta 5’s post punk classic “Mind Your Own Business.”
