Drive A
Loss of Desire
Dead Conflict Records

Drive A's Loss of Desire is smart and angry punk rock, a fusion of punk and metal speedplay for an incendiary debut album. There's beat, brains, and beast here to please almost anyone. Self-produced with the help of Dennis Hill and Matt Sorum (GNR, Velvet Revolver), Loss of Desire raises a glass (or two) to the Ramones, Rancid, and Rise Against, with additional nods to Linkin Park and the heyday of Motley Crüe. The album is rife with damn catchy tunes, particularly "Loss of Desire," "Everyone's Alone," "Are You Blind," "Can't Sleep It Off," "Head Underwater," "Smiling With Hate," "The Hell With Motivation," and "It's Getting Worse." No ballads temper the fire here, just 12 tracks of raw, sonic mayhem and acidic lyrics that capture a fury of disillusions and disaffections. It's edgy, cathartic, and inflammatory, like sucking the poison out of a snake bite or getting drunk with a chainsaw. Whatever burns your boat, Loss of Desire brings a punk sensibility to hard rock, or maybe it's a hard rock beast with a heart of punk. Either way, I like it.
