Fonda
Better Days
Self-released

Los Angeles' Fonda certainly took time off after the 2003 release of their last album, Catching Up to the Future. After eight years of "career opportunities, mortgage payments, wine tastings and babies," as the press blurb reads, Emily Cook and David Klotz have returned with Better Days, which fortunately is proof that absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder. The EP combines delicate vocals with dreamy, '60s-style melodic indie pop. It starts off with the romantic "A Love That Won't Let You Go," which is the catchiest track on the album. The title track is a little harder, but still maintains an ethereal quality in the arrangement. Klotz takes over lead vocals on the sugary-sweet pop of "In the Coach Station Light." Elsewhere, the punk-like beat of the driving "My Heart is Dancing" is a departure from the rest of the EP. They end with the lush production of "Summertime Flight," which highlights their gorgeous vocal harmonies and intricate melodies. Better Days is well worth the wait, but here's hoping they don't take so long to come out with their next full length.
