Gregory Page

All Make Believe

Buy it!

Gregory Page writes bittersweet, tortured fairy tales set to lush orchestral melodies and dark carnival calliopes. His songs -- eclectic and introspective; at times wistful, sometimes acidic -- are bluesy folk ballads built on George Harrison and Richie Havens, more recently reflected in fare by Jack Johnson and fellow San-Diegan Jason Mraz.

Page is a prolific songwriter, performer, and producer. He co-founded The Rugburns; collaborations and production credits include John Doe, Jason Mraz, Jewel, and Tom Brosseau. He has written and released several albums worth checking out, but All Make Believe is his debut on indie label, Sounden. "Strange Birds," "Foolish Words," and "Sleeping Dogs" are three of several well-crafted tracks on All Make Believe. Others, like "Ghost With Sad Eyes" and "Bumble Bees & Me," while lyrically interesting, musically stray into the overly swoony. In all, All Make Believe is like sweet milk and cake -- it's not a meal, but it'll lift you through a rainy afternoon tea party.
