House of Kings
House of Kings
Open Note

Armed with big crunchy hooks, rhythmic smarts and more melodic muscle than seems humanly possible to contain in a four-minute pop song, Sydney's House of Kings may very well be the find of the year. As his name suggests, singer Lyall Adonis is a handsome lad with Ben Harper good looks and a powerful voice to match. Catchy numbers like "Simple" or "Young Lovers" showcase Adonis' soulful brawn, while ballads like "Broken" and "Portrait" demonstrate his deft vocal finesse. Supported by a durable and versatile rhythm section made up of brothers Pete and Roo Pengly, Adonis is given all the room he needs in the course of a song to extend his range on numbers like the affecting "Lightning" or "Australia," the latter a rousing anthem to the band's homeland. "We want the things we know that we deserve," Adonis sings. They're on their way, boys.
