Kim Lenz and the Jaguars

Kim Lenz is the whole package; She's a sexy rockabilly chick who can set a room on fire, sing, play guitar and write songs. She even produced this one, smart cookie that she is. When it comes to rockabilly, live is always best, but playing this record real loud is an acceptable second. "Chocolate Eyes" is sweet as chocolate and tuneful. On the heels of that one is, "I'll Tell You When," a sultry, Stray Catsy number that stands out from the rest. "He's All Mine" with the brilliant rockabilly maestro, Big Sandy, who brings out the best in Kim, is my fave; I could have done with a couple more big dollops of him on this record. Kim's band, The Jaguars, a band in their own right, are polished rockabilly veterans. They're tight, energetic, and full of hot licks and Nick Curran on guitar is always a pleasure. Miss Lenz has been at this a long time now and I think it's safe for Wanda Jackson to pass the female Elvis torch on to her. She's surely earned it.
