Laxmikant Pyarelal

Bollywood Remembers: The EMI Years
Saregama/Times Square

Laxmikant Pyarelal

Although not widely known in the U.S. Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar and Pyarelal Ramprasad were the Lennon and McCartney of Bollywood. Their four decade-long partnership (Laxmikant died in 1998) yielded immortal movie scores for some of Bollywood's most memorable films. The two composers' zeitgeist was undoubtedly the late '60s, where, hot handed and creatively alert, they scored almost fifty films. The bulk of the first disc here is made up of that era's output, while Disc Two collects their work from the '70 and '80s like "Arre Haye Haye Yeh Majboori" from Roti Kapada Aur Makaan and "Om Shanti Om" from Karz and sprinkles in one track from the '90s, "Jumma Chumma De De' from Hum. Their partnership firmly established as an institution in Indian films, Laxmikant Pyarelal were prolific to the end, even landing their three biggest hits at the dawn of their career.
