The Loose Salute

Tuned To Love
Graveface Records

The Loose Salute

Formed by a few summering members of Mojave 3 (drummer Ian McCutcheon and pianist Al Forrester) and fronted by an ingénue who likes to sing Bob Dylan songs (Lisa Billson), The Loose Salute’s Tuned To Love is the perfect soundtrack for the summer. Filled with jangling gems (“From Head To Sandy Toes”), bluesy pop (“Turn The Radio Up”) and breezy country (“Photographs and Tickets”), the band’s debut is a carefree romp that perfectly chronicles the ups and downs of summer. And as we all know, it can be an emotional season—one minute you’re speeding down the freeway with the top down and the next you’re watching the sun setting while sitting next to someone you love who’s leaving in August. That being said, numbers like the breathy ballad “Why’d We Fight?” and the acoustic “Cold Water” are just devastating, while the punchy “Death Club” (with McCutcheon on vocals) captures the carelessness of having a whole summer to burn through.
