Nick Motil

Everything's Alright is a consistently good, country-edged alt-folk EP from Las Vegas native Nick Motil. Motil's voice reminds me of James Taylor, but his songwriting reminds me of John Hiatt, with tight melodies and clever lyrics. "Try Harder" and "Either Way" are two outstanding tracks on this too-short release. "Butterflies" and "Cliché" cross deeper into the land of country (that's not a bad thing). "Everything's Alright" is a nod to the loneliness of life in L.A., and "Home"—with guest vocals by Canadian singer/songwriter Tara MacLean—is a great song for the road.

Everything's Alright is a charming, well-produced indie EP. Motil is a seasoned act on the college circuit and deserves a wider audience.
