ALBUM REVIEW

Peter Bradley Adams

Leavetaking
Sarathan Records

Peter Bradley Adams

Leavetaking is a sweetly mellow collection of modern folk ballads by Peter Bradley Adams. His music is a captivating blend of ambient-tinged alternative rock, bluegrass, and roots-based Americana, somewhere between Richard Thompson and Pete Droge.

Of particular note on Leavetaking: “Los Angeles,” “I’ll Forget You,” “The Longer I Run,” and “Keep Us.” The closer, “Song for Viola,” is a startlingly beautiful instrumental.  Although Adams’ voice is bland on a few tracks, and I’d like to see a wider range of musical intensity, overall, Leavetaking is a nice effort.
