Patrick & Eugene
Altogether Now: Birds Bees Flowers Trees
Touch Tones

Combining the banjo-flecked pop of The Boy Least Likely To with the humor of Monty Python's Eric Idle, British duo Patrick & Eugene are quite a find. Comprised of former Groove Armada percussionist Patrick Dawes and sidekick Eugene Bezodis, these two gentlemen's sprightly take on pop music makes every number a joyful excursion. "Nevertheless" has a delicate Vaudevillian stomp; "Circus Train" is a blur of percussion and whistles and "Llama" is a buoyant little blast of pop that sounds like The Beach Boys by way of Theodor F. Smith and Jenny St. George-Fuller. Elsewhere, the gently imploring "Old Times" is a jazzy meditation on the past; "Don't Stop" is straight up Vaudeville disco and the cover of Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" is fevered folk at its best. In the course of a Patrick & Eugene number banjoes blare, whistles run free and bells and bongos reign supreme. Positively brilliant.
