Pink Nasty

Austin-based Sara Beck is Pink Nasty (her brother, Black Nasty, named her thus). Backed by drummer Jared Meadows and guitar/bass/keyboardist Austin Jenkins, Pink Nasty's unique sound is a blend of Cat Power, Chrissie Hynde, and Scotland's Camera Obscura. Her razor-sharp lyrics are full of feisty humor and clever, self-effacing bitterness. The more I listen, the more I like Pink Nasty -- jangly hooks and all. Lots of great tracks to choose from: "Sandstorm Temper," "Take You All On" ("Luck isn't part of the rules"), "Prince Pavement" ("And what's the worst that could happen / I won't tell your girlfriend"), Pud Kee Mow," "Nag Nag Nag" ("What I wouldn't give/to be on his mind"), "Eating Nerds" ("For this one last time, I'll listen to your shit, and how you like the subway…"), "Planters" ("Looks like I'm stuck with you"), and "Sex Kinda Smells."
