The Reel Banditos

Indochina is a trip-hop history lesson, an intriguing mash-up of orchestral electronica, funk, samples, and historical recordings. Helicopters, Chinese gongs, telephones, and pacing rhythms capture the chaos and tumult of a region caught in political turmoil. Liner notes include context. Indochina is an instrumental concept album: a modern-day soundtrack to an old political disaster; a reporter's notebook of facts and images rendered in music. Nothing is irrelevant. The Reel Banditos are the German-based duo, Ernesto Diablo and Butch Loco, concept characters creating dense prose; Indochina is a hundred thousand-word novel packed into a 46-minute CD. The Reel Banditos' tight collaboration, highly textured tracks, and powerful theme have produced a compelling, hyper-visual album that draws one back, again and again.
