ALBUM REVIEW

Robotanists

Vocalist Sarah Ellquist DeBlanke's gorgeous voice stands out on Robotanists' third release Plans in Progress. It has a sultry quality to it, but with a slight edge that complements the band's indie rock sound. And the powerhouse vocals combined with the intricate melodies make for an album that's hard to resist. The album begins with the dreamy "Have We Met Before?" which starts off softly, but builds slowly to a fever pitch. "Terminal A" has a playful start, before rocking out with elements of Silversun Pickups. The intense "The Lack Thereof" has a darker feel that draws you in. The pulsing "Plans in Progress" and the heavy "The Ghost You're Haunting" highlight DeBlanke's soaring vocals and the song's driving rhythms, building to a fierce finish. "On/Off the Ledge" is the catchiest track on the album, with its upbeat tempo and layered melody, while the soothing "Luggage vs. Baggage" stands out with its acoustic beginning and slower pace.
