The Swimmers
People are Soft
Mad Dragon

On their sophomore album People Are Soft, the Philadelphia husband/wife-led combo The Swimmers deliver on the promise of their hook-laden debut by delivering a collection loaded with cunning pop smarts. The opener "Shelter" is as unassuming as they come, but decked out in a creeping 80's pop crawl it has all the subversive pull of The Cure at their best. "A Hundred Hearts" is a catchy, buoyant number with a delicious chorus; "Drug Party" benefits from a brooding Pixies churn and "What This World Is Coming To" is a heaving bass-powered throbber. Later, "Save Me (From The Brightness)" is a twitchy blast of new wave, "To The Bells" is a winning pop number and "Try To Settle In" is downbeat in the most uplifting way. A terrific record.
