ALBUM REVIEW

TV Girl

Benny and the Jetts
Self-released

TV Girl

It was surprisingly difficult to find information on the San Diego band, TV Girl. Beyond the fact that TV Girl is a collaboration between Trung Ngo and Brad Petering, there wasn't much to go on. Focusing on what counts, their latest EP, Benny and the Jetts is an irresistible indie pop blend that embraces the musical past, while still looking to the present. The title track has an upbeat Motown vibe to it and an infectious chorus. The gorgeous "Baby You Were There" combines melodic '60s pop with an electronic touch. "Lizzy Come Back To Life" has a soulful feel to it and it makes you want to dance. Meanwhile, the eclectic "Your Own Religion" is a mishmash of straightforward rock and bizarre backing vocals. Intriguing work.
