We Are Hex
Hail the Goer
Independent

There is a darkness to We Are Hex's latest album Hail the Goer, and it's not really a surprise given their name. While the electronic wizardry and Goth rock-tinged sound are intriguing, it's lead singer Jilly's howling vocals that make this an album not to miss. These wailing vocals along with shrieking guitars stand out on tracks like "Birthplace of the Mystics" and "Teeth Collection." In the carnival-ish "Singer/Tastemaker" and the driving "Cutter/Giver," she yelps and shrieks her way over groaning guitars. From a slightly more mellow start, "Don't Let The Dirt In Here" builds in vocal intensity until the lead singer is no longer singing, but just screaming the lyrics. The fast-paced "We Are The Goer" is a slight diversion into more straightforward punk rock, but her vocals remain an intricate and arrestingly original focal point.
