Zealousy

Zealousy, led by vocalist Amarie Darvai and guitarist/keyboardist Chris Cody, sounds like a mix of Garbage and 4 Non-Blondes, with a bit of Kate Bush thrown in for fun. Darvai's vocals prowl, growl and punch like a pugilistic gymnast. Take, for example, "Wanting": "It seems to me the best things come to those who slightly give a damn." or "Wrong Man": "Part of my plan was, I guess, the wrong man/I'd have told you if only I'd have known it too." Complications is full of dark, edgy tracks that snap with psychic resonance. "Girl on the Edge," which opens the album, presents like the opening act of Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show; "Everything" snaps like a whipcrack, ("You don't mean anything to me."). "Distant Garden" visits the paradox of overlooking reality, while "Paralyzed Road" looks for a random exit. Zealousy is an indie-rock band with solid musicianship and a strong debut CD. Just watch out for broken glass on the dance floor.
